SAH Diagnostics Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2046.
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
As a company with no physical offices and 2 mobile units and 1 storage unit we have not previously had a formal policy for Carbon and Climate change reporting.
During 2021 we have set up recording systems so that we can report under the Streamline Energy and Carbon reporting rules and this has been reviewed by external consultants. The following section therefore includes the figures for 2021 and will be used as our baseline calculations for this template.
2021 has provided our baseline and we are now working on the detail for our targets to reduce our emissions by 2046 with a 65% reduction by 2031.
Our largest emissions relate to our mobile units and we are working with our logistics providers to move towards electric movers. We have also rented a space at a shared storage unit that is utilising some renewable energy and will look to source increasing levels of renewable energy over the next 7 years. We are also actively looking at the lighting systems in our units and improvements to our utilities over the next 2-3 years.
Even though we will eventually establish physical clinics in the UK, we have found that business travel is not necessary as these are being conducted via Teams meetings. The delivery of clinical services requires the physical presence of our staff at NHS Trust sites. All staff are actively encouraged to use public transport whenever possible.
We do have a fleet of 4 small company cars which currently use petrol. These are regularly serviced to ensure they remain as efficient as possible. Conversion to electric will be initiated in 2022 the next replacement date for all of the vehicles to electric is scheduled to take place by 2023.
The new storage unit is located near the Town Centre with access to a good public transport system. This reduces the travel for staff and the use of petrol cars.
Scope 3 emissions are still being investigated to ensure we have a full understanding and picture but we believe our 2021 report includes the main sources of emissions. Major work to ensure a proper base of all emissions has been established and will continue over the next 18 to 24 months and this will include drafting of procedures needed to be added to our review of new suppliers to their approach to climate control.
All of our clients are now excepting invoices by email, and similarly we sign up for paperless services and invoices from all of our suppliers as well. Our staff all understand that they do not need to print as many documents and we are in the process of converting all of our pre and post op notes along with feedback forms to a paperless system. Our challenge in the coming months is to develop the paperless software, provide training to all of our staff, to ensure its usability and security, and reinforce this culture, to ensure paper usage remains low. as we implement our policy. We have long had a recycle policy and, over the next two years this will be reinforced with a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle promotion to get all staff on board.
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 50 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 55%
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas, company reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors.
